MONUMENT TO ¨JOSÉ MARIA MORELOS Y PAVÓN¨
Placed on ¨El Mirador¨, the pride of our city Montemorelos, is without any doubt the biggest and most important statue in the entire citrus area. Inaugurated in 1969 and made by the Chihuahua artist Efren Ordoñez. It provides a great view of the city and it is open for the tourists with free admittance.
VALLE DEL PILÓN MUSEUM
Installed on an XXth century building, the museum was originally used as an Industrial and Agricultural College, elementary school as well as an orphanage. The foundation of the museum is mainly inspired by the find of an Emperor´s Mammoth remains, which lived approximately ten thousand years ago in an area now called “Las Adjuntas”.
The walk in the museum is divided in four big areas, which talk about the location of our city, the origin, and the consolidation of this town, also about the intervenience of Montemorelos in multiple events of our past, the traditions and culture, that have been lived for so many years, and for the last, there is one hall exclusively used for information about the town fruit, the Orange, the most important citrus in the entire state of Nuevo Leon.
CITRUS INDUSTRY IN MONTEMORELOS
A citrus and fresh fruit exports company. It is a highly important company for our city, furthermore, it is possible to watch the cutting and packing processes of the citric, such as oranges, grapefruits, mango, that are sold in markets as far as Japan, Canada and the U.S. There is also a small store where you can buy its products.
HIDALGO HISTORICAL SQUARE
This is the name of one of the most important areas of the city. The limits of this square are, the ¨Palacio de Gobierno¨, the biggest Catholic Church in town ¨El Sagrado Corazon de Jesus¨, a beautiful plaza where you can enjoy live music in some Sundays every month. There is also a variety of restaurants near this plaza and a great panoramic view of the most colonial square in our city.
TOWN HALL
The construction of this place started at the end of the XIX century, and was concluded in 1907. The architecture is mainly inspired by the European Colonial style. Built mainly from ashlar, this building was recently remodeled. It is located at the Hidalgo historical square, in front of the Catholic Church ¨El Sagrado Corazon de Jesus¨.
CATHOLIC CHURCH ¨EL SAGRADO CORAZON DE JESUS¨
It is the biggest Catholic Church in the Linares Diocese, in charge of 15 cities in southeastern Nuevo Leon. Its construction started since 1817 but was interrupted until 1926, when the transepts and dome were totally finished. It was recently remodeled and it’s located at the Hidalgo historical square.
CRISTO GIGANTE
Is the biggest Christ Statue made of wood in the entire world, it is almost 12 meters long and it weighs more than 3 tons. It was built on for over 10 years by a local family, and it’s located at their own house. Open to public with a minimum admittance fee. You can also be witness of a variety of images and Religious Icons.
BIOPARQUE ESTRELLA
It is located only 20 minutes away from Montemorelos, and it is one of the biggest parks in Mexico. There are a lot of activities mainly focused on families and the interaction between them and nature. Activities such as mechanical rides, natural attractions, and a concept of a safari interacting with animals as Giraffes and others.
